It is a non-mythological retelling of the Mahabharata and is widely acclaimed as a modern classic. Parva is unique in terms of the complete absence of any episode that has the element of divine intervention found in the original.

It was an epic indeed Bhyrappa successfully demystified and demythified all the holy characters for me.This version is quite believable. I lives through the times , especially in the past 3 days, wherein I managed to finish the bulk of the book ( approx 60 percent ). I even dreamt of the happenings of the book yesternight ...Am too impressed and too diminished to write an appropriate review.Would urge all Mahabharata fans to read this , unless they are extremely religious and want their gods and

PARVA! Well, by far my favorite Kannada novel. I wish fantasy directors like Peter Jackson take a look at this gem of a novel by S.L.B. Parva is one of the rare documentations of the epic Mahabharatha, which is logical and based on Science rather than on stories and legends. A must-read for all Kannada novel fans.

If you sheared the characters in Mahabharata of their every divine powers and the mysticism, and focus on their emotions, their aspirations, their greed at a very human level, then the story you will get is Bhyrappa's Parva. It is a very beautifully written story, which takes on the social and anthropological aspects of the period. This is Bhyrappa's version of Mahabharata. Loved reading it. Book is available in English, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit. Go for it. Don't forget to read Aavarana and Sartha of the same author.
