I am racing through Izzo's terrific Marseilles Trilogy. Fabio Montale has left the police force, but he's forced (or forcing himself?) to do some policing in Chourmo, and gets himself into a case that won't stop deepening until...well, that would be telling. Definitely noir, the middle story of the authors Marseilles trilogy. The other two, first and last, are Total Chaos and Solea, and each can be read independently of the others.
