Chronicle In Favor Of Books Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree
Spoilt, wilful, resourceful and proud, Sofia Solanas grows up on a magnificent ranch in the middle of the Argentine pampas, loved by all around her. All, that is, except her Irish mother, Anna, who punishes her daughter for her own sense of alienation and inadequacy while doting on her sons. When a horrified Anna discovers that Sofia has embarked on a passionate love affair that can only bring shame upon the family, she sends Sofia away to Europe, inadvertently exiling her from her family and the man she loves for over twenty years. And then a family tragedy calls Sofia home.
Following the story of the Solanas family in Argentina during the tumultous years of political upheaval, and Sofia's life in exile, MEET ME UNDER THE OMBU TREE is a moving, evocative and unforgettable story of love and forgiveness from a brilliant new voice.

I couldnt stop reading... i wanted to know what was going to happen next. Such a beautiful story. Forbidden loveI was very interested in reading a novel based in Argentina, and this one is basically set in a large pampas area with a ranch large enough to support a number of families in their individual houses. Unfortunately I did not find the writing or the plot matching my expectations. Seemingly it is really pitched at a young adult reader with perhaps the author wishing for a contract to sign up to a daytime TV soap opera. Rather disappointing to the extent that after about the first hundred pages I
I love Santa Montefiore as a writer. Her characters are well defined and have depth that make you love or hate them, her stories are well delivered and have multiple layers that become revealed as the tale unfolds. There is trauma and truth, conflict and compassion, loss and loyalty, humor and humanness. You can't be disappointed reading any of her books...and I have read them all.

Having read all of Santa Montefiore's books I still think this first one is my favourite.
There are only three words to describe this book: 1-Oh 2-My3-God.
I absolutely love this one. One of my favourite books ever. Beautiful story about love, family and sacrifice. I cried a lot while reading it, but that's just another reason why I love it so much - I really enjoy books that make me cry.
