Criticize Regarding Books Si Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata

It was okay, and has too much plot points open for further details. Much of what I enjoyed immensely was the LGBTQ metaphor and how Philippines is still under gender construction. I have to get back because most of the jokes are petty and non-sequiturs.

I admire and fully acknowledged, despite my lack of enough knowledge in the Philippine cinema and literature, that Ricky Lee is indeed one of the greatest writers that this country has. However, just like his previous book Para Kay B, this book, Si Amapola sa Ika-65 na kabanata is another frustration for me as a reader.Amapola is an impersonator suffering from multiple personality disorder with two alter egos - Zaldy the naïve, hopeless romantic and shy gay while Isaac is the brusque and rough

Maybe I am not the intended audience for this book. I was looking for more, but all I have read - especially on the latter part - was NOISE. Nakakalalake kasi sa ingay ng baklang ito. Hindi ko kinaya. More thoughts soon.

NOTE: WIth unintentional spoilers.This is one of those few books that I like so much, but when you ask me why, I can't exactly explain the reason. I finished and put down the book with so much joy in my head, thinking "I've read another masterpiece." There are several factors that might have made reading this not-as-easy (the baby, a pile of house chores, etc). It is well written but, at this time, going through it felt a lot like homework. It took more than 2 months for me to finish just because I felt like there are more interesting things to read online. Oh well. Here's to hoping the next books will be easier to swallow... and digest.
