We are proud to announce that DOG WATER FREE by Michael Jay is a B.R.A.G.Medallion Honoree. This tells a reader that this book is well worth their time and money!

It's fitting that I learned about Dog Water Free from a Facebook group called "The Ol' Neighborhood." Next to Sacred Scripture, the Boy Scout Handbook, and Henry Ford's autobiography, this book deserves canon status representing the place I grew up in. It also documents the generous spirit and the unfettered idealism that characterizes the older Baby Boom Generation.

Michael Jay grew up in Detroit. A graduate of Harvard College, he subsequently earned his MBA at Northeastern University in 1983. His coming-of-age memoir, DOG WATER FREE, is dedicated to his college roommate, Tom Wales, who plays a pivotal role in his story, and who many believe to be the only Federal Prosecutor in U.S. history to have been killed in the line of duty. Michael lives in Idaho.

When the author sent me this book for review, I wasn't sure if I was excited or annoyed. Lately, the self-published memoirs that I have run across have left to be desired. The title was intriguing so I decided to give it a go... so glad that I did.Beautifully written, gorgeously executed. I'm a huge fan of Frank McCourt and I got the same type of vibe from his writing style - he's able to capture his boyhood in such a unique and loving way. Perhaps it's because of the Angela/Marge connection and

Michael Jay sketched an authentic picture of the life of a young boy who grew up in difficult circumstances and rose above it all. In some cases not only by his own effort, but by co-incidence, then sometimes by his own effort, being coaxed along by well meaning mentors and friends. The story is one hundred percent enjoyable. The reason for the title comes in right at the end as a clever surprise.
